Rudimentary Peni |
Blatantly stolen from Southern Records. http://www.southern.com/southern/band/RPENI/ Yeah, I suck. Actually the page does not exist anymore and they have not put up a new one as far as I can tell.. So they suck! :) |
biography"Rudimentary Peni...were probably the most influential band to emerge from the Anarcho Punk scene...Rudimentary Peni are deities in the world of squats and direct action." - Kerrang! "Hailing from the the early 80's Crass movement, Rudimentary Peni were bastions of articulate Anarcho-outrage, stamping their name indelibly onto the hearts of Punkers everywhere." - R.A.W. Rudimentary Peni were one of the main bands of the "anarcho-punk" explosion of the early 1980's and their debut album "Death Church" reached number one in the NME indie charts. They maintain a fanatical following. "Pope Adrian 37th" promises the same dose of Anglo-punk that every fan shall eagerly anticipate. It is comprised of all new material and is Rudimentary Peni's first studio album recorded since 1989's Cacophony. It follows a series of recent Rudimentary Peni CD reissues of the LP's, Cacophony and The EP's of RP. As archivally significant as the band, Crass, Rudimentary Peni have a notable history that produced four LP's and two EP's (two LP's and one EP of which were originally released on Crass Records). And the sum of them is certainly essential to any comprehensive punk record collection. "Pope Adrian 37th" was recorded during Nick's recent recovery from a lengthy illness, and is believed to be the only punk album ever made whilst being detained under Section 3 of the of the 1983 Mental Health Act. As such, the subject matter of the album relates to the delusions Nick was experiencing at the time, particularly the idea that he was said Pope. The songs also address topics such as psychiatric medication and hearses. This exciting and fascinating material is delivered in fast, acerbic punk style reminiscent of the Snivelling Shits and the Art Attacks. "The Primal Screamer", meanwhile, is a semi autobiographical novel about punk rock and Primal Scream therapy. It details the the chaos and tragedy from which Rudimentary Peni's famous works emerged, and gives a revealing and comic insight into the anarchist punk scene of the early eighties. This novel is undoubtedly the best novel ever written about punk rock by one of the stars of the genre. It will appeal to anyone interested in punk, or interested in the cutting edge of modern mental health treatments. Illustrated by the author, with an introduction by his GP, and nominated for the Booker Prize, this elegantly-written work is surely destined for a cult classic reputation.
